Partnering with the Victor Pinchuk Foundation (VPF), CCRDF had organized a critical two-day training was conducted in Lutsk, from October 29-30, 2007, encompassing an educational seminar and practical training in perinatal ultrasonography. This training seminar was created specifically for ultrasonographers, obstetricians, and perinatologists, inviting participating maternity hospitals and perinatal centers of the VPF Kolysky Nadii program.

 

The overall goals of this training were to provide participants with additional knowledge, clinical skills, and problem solving abilities in ultrasonography.  The sessions also were designed to improve the quality of physicians’ diagnostic imaging with a maximum of information contributing to the diagnostic process.  By the end of the training, participants were able to describe the sonographic appearance of normal and abnormal anatomy of the fetus.    

 

Guest speakers who took part in this training program were from the Western Europe and Ukraine: Dr. Luc De Catte, OBGYN of Leusen, Belgium; Dr. Josef Wisser, OBGYN from Zurich, Switzerland and Dr. Oleksij Solovyov, OBGYN of the Kyiv clinic, Nadia. 

 

During the training session, forty physicians listened to topics ranging from assessing gestation in 1st and 2nd trimesters, early pregnancy problems, multiple pregnancies, congenital infections, fetal anomalies, to ultrasonographies of the heart, face, neck, central nervous system, the intestines, and urogenital system.  Case studies played a major role throughout the training sessions, particularly with open discussions between attendees and the guest lecturers on specific cases encountered in Ukraine.
